Pen and brown ink, 72 x 110 mm. PROVENANCE: Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830), Lugt 2445 ; Contessa Rosa Piatti Lochis Crocetta, Lugt 2026c on the mount and her stamped number '2' ; Ferruccio Asta (1900-1952), Lugt 116a on the mount.
A pupil of Cavalier d'Arpino, Francesco Allegrini was a prolific draughtsman; there are groups of his drawings, usually quite small in size, in public collections in Berlin, Edinburgh and New York.
