KONO BAIREI (1844 - 1895) TWO RABBITS

Born in Kyoto, Bairei, a painter, book illustrator and art teacher, was a pupil of Nakajima Raisho, of the Maruyama school. After Raisho's death, Bairei studied with the Shijo school master Shiokawa Bunrin. Bairei specialized in flower and bird prints and landscapes, with a touch of western realism. |
