The grave stele by Bazzaro on the tomb of Arturo Ferrari

ERNESTO BAZZARO (Milan 1859 - 1937) HARP PLAYER
Black chalk, 849 x 642 mm. Signed and dated in black chalk 'Bazzaro E. / 1933'. Dedicated in pen and brown ink 'Alla graziosa arpista / Sig Ada Carla Cardani / Dedica Bazzaro E. / 1933'. The drawing is connected with the grave stele done by Bazzaro for the tomb of the Milanese painter Arturo Ferrari (1861-1932), which is also dated 1933.

A sculptor who also practiced printmaking, Ernesto Bazzaro, the brother of the painter Leonardo, studied at the Brera Academy under Ambrogio Borghi, but was deeply influenced by the anti-academic spirit of the sculptor Giuseppe Grandi and the painters Daniele Ranzoni and Tranquillo Cremona. Ernesto Bazzaro produced many impressive monuments, created figural decorations for Milanese building facades and also produced a number of small bronzes in commercial editions. In the etching technique Ernesto Bazzaro and his brother have been influenced by the works of Giuseppe Grandi and Luigi Conconi.
