Vespasiano Bignami was a protagonist of Milanese Scapigliatura. He was a painter (much appreciated as a portraitist), a art critic, a teacher at the Brera. He also was a poet and a journalist and was a leader founder of the 'Famiglia Artistica', a Milanese artists' society that sponsored annual exhibitions.
