FLORIANO BODINI (Gemonio, VA, 1933 - Milan 2005) TESTA DI NEGRO (head of an African boy)
Lead, 1963; 16 by 17 by 20 cm. The edition of this sculpture was: one lead fusion, one silver fusion and three bronze fusions. PROVENANCE: Gallery Toninelli - Arte Moderna, Milan; Igino Cerastico (1928-1979).

Having completed his secondary education at a college of art, Floriano Bodini took up his studies at Milan's Accademia di Brera, where he was appointed professor in 1954. In 1978 Bodini accepted the chair of sculpture at the academy of art in Carrara and was its director until 1987, when he was invited to take up the chair of Plastic Design at the Technical University in Darmstadt. From 1991 to 1994 Floriano Bodini was also president of the academy in Carrara. The sculptor holds several honours, among them the "Presidente della Repubblica" awarded for sculpture by the Accademia Nazionale of San Lucca in 1977, the "Michelangelo Buonarotti" sculpture prize awarded him in Rome in 1996, and the 1998 Sozzara (Mantua) sculpture award.
