GIOVANNI FRANCESCO CASTIGLIONE (Genoa 1641 - 1710) A PAIR OF STILL LIFE WITH GRAPES AND OTHER FRUIT
|
Son of Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione, Francesco worked with his father in Rome, Mantua, Genoa and Venice. Paintings by him are cited in numerous Venetian, Genoese and Neapolitan inventories. Francesco's graphic style derives from Giovanni Benedetto's late manner. His pen studies are characterized by an attractive sketchiness, a profusion of continuous zig-zag strokes used for shading, and a peculiar treatment of foliage with short, distinct curved or hooked strokes. |
