MAURO CONCONI (Milan 1815 - 1860) TWO WOMEN BATHING
Black chalk, heightened with white, on brown paper; 232 x 208 mm. A painting titled 'Bagnanti sorprese' was mentioned, with the date 1849, by G. Mongeri in 'Mauro Conconi. Commemorazione', Milan, 1861 (my warmest thanks to Giovanna Ginex for this information). A painting with a subject very similar to our drawing (possibly the painting mentioned by Mongeri) was sold at Finarte, Milan, in December 1979 (my warmest thanks to Michele Bruno of Finarte, who kindly provided this information and an image of the painting).

A pupil of Luigi Sabatelli and Carlo Bellosio at the Milanese Accademia di Brera, Mauro Conconi painted frescoes in Villa Calderara, Venzago, in Palazzo Visconti, Milan, and in the Cathedral of Lodi. He was also a lithographer.

price: 1.350,00 euros
