Cortese studied with Salvatore Fergola and later with Morelli and Smargiassi at the Accademia in Naples. In the fifties he moved to Rome, specialising in the depiction of the Roman 'campagna', often working with Achille Vertunni. In the sixties Cortese moved to Paris, and was influenced by the painters of the Barbizon school. In Paris he exhibited many times at the Salon. During his career, Cortese exhibited his works also in public exhibitions in Naples, Parma and Milan. |
