Black chalk, heightened with white, on faded blue paper. Inscribed in pen '52'. 343 x 205 mm. The handling of the chalk and the facial type of the Child fit well with the chalk drawings by Discepoli. A Lombard painter and draughtsman, Discepoli was a follower of Camillo Procaccini and was also influenced by Morazzone and, in his late years, by contemporary Genoese baroque painters. Discepoli worked in Milan, Como and Lugano.
