EMILIAN ARTIST, 18th century STUDIES OF HEADS
Pen and brown ink, over traces in black chalk; 313 x 210 mm.
Attributed in the past to the Spanish baroque artist Antonio del Castillo, this drawing is surely by an Emilian hand of the 18th century. Many drawings by the same anonymous artist are in the collection of Musei Civici of Padua. See Aa. Vv. 'Da Tintoretto a Bison. Musei Civici di Padova. Disegni del Museo d'Arte. Secoli XVI-XVIII', Padua, 2005; nos, from 308 to 337. My warmest thanks to Enrico Cortona, who kindly suggested this attribution.
