GIOVANNI BATTISTA GALESTRUZZI (Florence 1618 - after 1677) SILENUS ON AN ASS ACCOMPAINED BY FAUNS AND SATYRS; SILENUS RECLINING NEAR A GOAT
|
Galestruzzi was a pupil, in his native town, of Francesco Furini and perhaps of Della Bella. He later moved to Rome, where he enrolled the Accademia di San Luca in 1652. He was an accomplished draughtsman and etcher. Galestruzzi's most important work is a series of etchings for Leonardo Agostini’s book 'Le gemme antiche figurate' (Rome, 1657–9). He also produced several collections of etchings of low reliefs and friezes after Polidoro da Caravaggio. |
