A draughtsman, painter, lithographer and illustrator, Antonio Masutti studied in Venice at the Fine Arts Academy and was granted a residency in Rome between 1848 and 1849. In 1849 he moved to Turin. During his stay in Rome he got involved with the publication of the satirical magazine 'Il Don Pirlone', for which he designed most illustrations. After his move to Turin he illustrated most of Pinto's three volumes book 'Don Pirlone a Roma', where the illustrations are very much of the same style of the ones in the magazine. He illustrated also various other books, including novels and memoirs, and he made a number of paintings, including portraits and altarpieces. |
