After studying at the Istituto d'Arte in Parma, Carlo Mattioli began his artistic career as an illustrator. He then moved to painting, his interests being the nudes, the still-lives, the landscapes, the self-portraits and the portraits of the friends. Mattioli's works stand in a border zone between the figurative and the abstract painting and the artist has been compared to Morandi and Burri.
