Workshop of JACOPO BERTOJA (Parma 1544 1573?) and GIROLAMO MIROLA (Bologna? 1530/1535 Parma 1570) SEATED FEMALE FIGURE (recto); SKETCHES OF TWO MALE HEADS AND OF A LEG (verso)
Pen and brown ink, brown wash; a faint sketch in red chalk on top left corner (recto). Inscribed 'Parmesan'. 256 x 171 mm. A few losses.
The penwork of this fine Parmigianinesque drawing is reminiscent of several drawings published by Diane De Grazia in her researches on the artists working at the Ottavio Farnese's ducal court in Parma. Bertoja and Mirola were the most important artists working for that court. See: Diane De Grazia, 'Bertoja, Mirola and the Farnese Court', Bologna, 1991. |
