GIUSEPPE PALIZZI (Lanciano 1812 - Passy 1888) L'ABREUVOIR
Etching, 1878. A very good impression of the only edition, printed in Paris by Veuve Cadart in 1878 for 'L'Illustration Nouvelle'. On laid Arches paper with the watermark 'crossed letters MB', which refers to Morel and Bercioux who became the owners of the Arches manufactures after 1860. With full margins, minor faults at margins, otherwise in very good condition. To the platemark 195 x 275 mm, the entire sheet measuring 310 x 470 mm.

The elder of the Palizzi brothers, Giuseppe studied in Naples, under Pitloo and Smargiassi, but in 1844 he moved to Paris, spending most of his career in France. There he was influenced by the Barbizon School, specializing in animal studies within landscapes. Giuseppe Palizzi first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1845 and was awarded the Legion d'honneur in 1859.
