Red chalk, heightened with white, on buff paper. On the verso: study of an hand in black chalk and an attribution to Maratta, in pencil, by a modern hand. Watermark: indistinct. PROVENANCE: Ferruccio Asta (1900-1952), Lugt 116a. 400 x 272 mm.
The modern attribution to Maratta is reasonable but not fully convincing. Surely the study of male head reveals a great sensitiveness.
