Pen and grey ink, washed in grey; 218 x 312 mm. Inscribed (signed ?) on the recto 'Franco Savani', in pen and black ink. Inscribed (signed ?) on the verso 'Francesco Savani Bres°', in pen and black ink. On the verso a sketch in black chalk for the figure of Saint John. Francesco Savani first trained with the Brescian painter Angelo Paglia, then with Francesco Monti who had come from Bologna to Brescia to paint in the Chiesa della Pace. Savani's late style was influenced by Giambattista Pittoni. Savani worked mainly in Brescia, his native town.
