BENEDETTO GHIVARELLO
(Turin 1882 – 1955)
THREE COUNTRY LANDSCAPES

The drawings were made with a subtractive technique, after preparing the cardboards with with a dark bituminous substance. Each signed B. Ghivarello.
a) 125 x 142 mm. b) 162 x 119 mm. c) 113 x 153 mm.
Subtractive technique: the method of covering the paper with graphite, charcoal or any removable dark substance marks, which are then erased to create the desired image. The technique allows the artist to add texture, establish tonal forms and create the effect of reflected light.

A pupil of Lorenzo Delleani and Giuseppe Scaglia, Ghivarello made his debut at the Second Quadrennial of Turin in 1908. He specialized in landscape paintings, participating in numerous exhibitions in Turin and Genoa.  Appreciated for his life technique and use of the palette knife, he influenced artists such as Giovanni Cestari.
