Born in Venice, Agostino received some initial artistic training there, though his teacher is unknown. He initially copied prints by Albrecht Dürer and Giulio Campagnola. He then moved to Florence for a short time before settling in Rome. By 1516 he had joined the printmaking workshop of Marcantonio Raimondi in Rome, of which he was one of the most important members. He produced a number of prints after Raphael, Michelangelo and Giulio Romano. Around 1527 Agostino returned to his native Venice due to the Sack of Rome, and there he worked as an illustrator and printmaker. Later he visited Mantua and Florence before returning to Rome in 1531, remaining until at least 1536. It is assumed he died there, though there is no documentation.
