We owe Marco Ciampolini the first focus on this Sienese painter and the proposal to attribute to him this drawing, another kept at the Getty and a couple of paintings. Giuseppe was the son of the painter Ilario Casolani and the grandson of Alessandro. Until Ciampolini research, the artist was known only from documents.
