The drawing, intended for an illustration, is inspired by the macabre and occultist themes of Symbolism: in this it stands out from the more conventional humorous production of Veneziani as Art Déco illustrator, and it is closer to a visionary artist as Dario Wolf.
After the the completion of his studies at the Bera's Academy, Ubaldo Veneziani became known as a fashion illustrator, and his drawings appeared in several women’s fashion magazines. He was active as a gifted painter, book illustrator and poster designer in the 1930’s and 1940’s, Veneziani eventually gave up a career in the advertising business to devote himself solely to art and design.
