ERNESTO BAZZARO
(Milan 1859 - 1937)
ARTISTA

Etching, Mezzetti 30. A very good impression in black ink, printed with much tone on wove paper. Signed in the plate E Bazzaro. To the platemark 360 x 202 mm. With small margins. Touched in pen at bottom left corner, in very good condition.
This etching is certainly connected with the portrait of Carla Cardani, a large drawing by Bazzaro, offered on my web site.
Both, the etching and the drawing, are connected with the stele done by Bazzaro for the tomb of the Milanese painter Arturo Ferrari (1861-1932).

A sculptor who also practiced printmaking, Ernesto Bazzaro, the brother of the painter Leonardo, studied at the Brera Academy under Ambrogio Borghi, but was deeply influenced by the anti-academic spirit of the sculptor Giuseppe Grandi and the painters Daniele Ranzoni and Tranquillo Cremona. Ernesto Bazzaro produced many impressive monuments, created figural decorations for Milanese building facades and also produced a number of small bronzes in commercial editions. In the etching technique Ernesto Bazzaro has been influenced by the works of Giuseppe Grandi and Luigi Conconi, the leading exponents of the acquaforte monotipata in Lombardy.
