In addition to painting, Picasso was also an engraver, ceramist, set designer, poet and playwright. He has spent most of his adult life in France. Picasso showed a passion and skill for drawing from an early age and grew up to become one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century. He is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles he helped develop and explore. Picasso's enormous body of work remains, and the legend lives on: a tribute to the vitality of the "disturbing" Spaniard with his "dark... penetrating" eyes that superstitiously believed the work would keep him alive. For almost 80 of his 91 years, Picasso dedicated himself to an artistic production that contributed significantly and in parallel to the entire development of modern art in the 20th century.
